The Charles River separates Boston and Cambridge, and the Red Line subway trains provide direct access to downtown Boston. The USS Constitution is four miles from the inn. The Faneuil Hall Marketplace is four and one half miles away. Fenway Park and the Museum of Fine Arts are approximately five miles from the property. Features. This Neoclassical revival mansion, built in 1843, features monumental pilasters, and a full front porch adorned with fluted columns and Ionic capitals. The inn serves made to order breakfasts each morning on the outdoor terrace or in the parlor, which features a fireplace. Afternoon tea and freshly baked cookies are also offered. Complimentary wireless Internet access, a computer station, and fax and photocopy services are available. The inn features hardwood floors, antique furnishings and chandeliers. Pets are not allowed at the property.
Guestrooms. Guestrooms at the Mary Prentiss Inn boast hardwood floors, and furniture and antiques that reflect the mansion's architectural era. All rooms offer four poster or cannonball beds. Select rooms feature wood burning fireplaces, jetted tubs, high ceilings, ornate ceiling and window moldings, in wall shutters original to the house, wing chairs and desks. Cable television and complimentary high speed Internet access are provided. Beds are dressed with pillowtop mattresses and down comforters. All rooms are equipped with mini fridges.
Expert Tip. The Mary Prentiss Inn was once a country estate originally built by architect William A. Saunders as a wedding gift for his son and his daughter in law, Mary Prentiss. The Neoclassical design was typical of the Greek Revival that dominated American architecture in the 19th century.
