Location. The Inn at Stockbridge, located in Stockbridge, Mass., is positioned on 12 acres of semi wooded land. The property is approximately five miles from skiing and hiking at the Beartown and Monument Mountains. The inn is nine miles from Arrowhead, the former home of Herman Melville, in which the classic "Moby Dick" was written.
Features. The Inn at Stockbridge was built in 1906 and is clad in period d?cor. Full, complimentary candlelit breakfasts, featuring a variety of entrees and sweets, are served each morning in the formal dining room. Complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate and snacks are available, and wine and cheese are served nightly in the living room. The game room includes a video and CD library and a computer with high speed Internet access. A fireplace is featured in the guest common area, and the inn boasts a wrap around porch. The property includes a fitness room with cardiovascular equipment and a collection of guided weight machines. The grounds feature a large outdoor heated pool and a massage room where guests can schedule an appointment with an on call masseuse. Pets are not allowed.
Guestrooms. The Inn at Stockbridge features cottage and barn suites, and standard guestrooms in the main house. Accommodations include private bathrooms, some with jetted tubs. Televisions, VCRs and CD players are provided. Select units offer gas fireplaces. Micro fiber bathrobes are provided. Beds are dress with down comforters wrapped in duvet covers in the winter, and quilts in the summer. Complimentary sherry is included.
Expert Tip. Monument Mountain has been a source of inspiration to many artists. William Cullen Bryant's wrote "Monument Mountain," a lyrical poem that tells the story of a Mohican maiden whose forbidden love for her cousin led her to leap to her death from the mountain's cliffs.
