Location. The Casa Rama Bed and Breakfast is located in the historic district of Harlingen, Texas. The El Mercado Shopping Center is one mile away, and the Cottonwood Creek Country Club is within two miles of the property. The Laguna Atascosa Wildlife Refuge, which overlooks Laguna Madre and South Padre Island, is within 25 miles.
Features. This Mediterranean style mansion, built in 1931, features the innkeepers' fine collection of antiques, large arched windows, parquet floors and chandeliers. Full, complimentary breakfasts are served each morning in the breakfast room, which overlooks the flower garden, fountain and outdoor pool. A computer station, conference room, and fax and photocopy services are available. The inn offers a living room with a fireplace, antique furnishings, library, board games and a DVD player. The piano room is a circular room with restored hardwood floors and walls. Pets are not allowed at this property.
Guestrooms. Guestrooms are furnished with antiques, and feature private bathrooms and featherbeds. All rooms offer complimentary dial up Internet access and cable television. The Lavender Room features a jetted tub. Select rooms offer antique armoires, writing desks, stained glass windows and views of the flower gardens and old canopy trees.
Expert Tip. Harlingen is known as the City of Murals. Its history of murals goes back to 1928 when a colorful, cast concrete frieze by Luis Lopez Sanchez was commissioned by the school district. In the 1950s, a local artist was commissioned by several businesses to paint historical murals. Several murals from the 1990s reflect the diversity of flora and fauna along the border. Many community murals were also painted in the 1990s.
